Dr Cuttica’s main research interests lie in the history of ideas in early modern Britain and Europe. The study of patriarchalism, absolute power, resistance theory, republicanism, patriotic ideals and democracy has been the keynote of his works so far. In addition, he has written about the practice of history-writing, notably the methodology of intellectual history. He is currently the beneficiary of a ’Gerda Henkel Stiftung Scholarship: Funding Programme Democracy’, based at the University of Helsinki. This project focuses on the history of democracy in early modern Europe (ca.1500-1800) and is undertaken in collaboration with Prof. Markku Peltonen, Dr. Ariane Fichtl and Dr. Ere Nokkala.
